Does Descript own your prompts?

Only to a degree—Descript's cited terms leave your prompt rights subject to license carve-outs or conditions.

Their words · Terms of Service

(a) Certain features of the Descript Service use artificial intelligence tools and other technology (the “Generative Tools”) to generate text, audio, video, and other content (“Output”) in response to prompts and other input you submit to the Descript Service (“Input”).  Both Input and Output are considered User Content under these Terms, and as between you and Descript, you own all right, title, and interest in and to any Input and Output, to the extent protectable under applicable law. The Generative Tools may include artificial intelligence and other tools and technologies provided by third parties, and you acknowledge that your use of the Generative Tools may involve access to your Inputs and Outputs by Descript and/or such third parties and that such access may occur pursuant to agreements you enter into with those third parties in addition to these Terms.
